logologoMike's Top 10 "B" Movies

10   Heavy Metal

I cannot imagine how many parents mistakenly let their kids go to this movie because it was animated.  This was the most graphic cartoon to be released to the mass public at the time.  No one knew how far this would push the limits of what was considered rated "R" at the time.  It was a great movie though, with 5 short stories.  John Candy made his debut in this movie with a voice character.

9   National Lampoons Van Wilder

This was  such a great movie.  It caught me out of left field because I never heard anything about it.  It was a great movie with the main character who is a young version of Chevy Chase.  Rent it, laugh and never eat an eclair the same way again.

8   If Looks Could Kill

This was the pinnacle of Richard Grecco's career.  This movie was aimed at teenagers, and was a slight spoof of spy movies.  The basic plot was Grecco went to France with his high school french class, and was mistaken for a secret agent and swept away in the world  of spies.  This was a great action/comedy that made the "French Teacher" part of B movie history.

7   Blood Sport

This was Jean-Claude Van Damns American movie debut.  The "Yaaahhhaaaa" faces that he made during the fights scenes  were a 10 on the unintentional comedy scale.  The only problem with this poorly made movie is, everytime it is on some base level cable network like TNN or the USA Network, I end up watching it.  I have seen this movie over a dozen times, compared to Saving Private Ryan which I own the DVD has only been watched once.

6   Clerks

A low budget, black and white movie based on the day of two minimum wage workers was the premise of this movie.  There was no name talent, no fancy sets and no big budget special effects.  But this still was a great movie that showed the attitudes of young people in America at the time.  The main character was having a bad day to end all bad days that we all have had in our work lives, and his friend only made things worse.

5   Hackers

The movie that showed the ugly underbelly of the hacking world was of course Hackers.  This was Angelina Jolie's first big time film made in the early 90's.  The hackers would Oh and Ah over the 14.4 baud modem, and the full color 10 inch screen on the computers (that somehow projected themselves onto everything).  And would take over local tv networks late at night so they could watch what they wanted to on television.  This was such a huge farce on how computers actually work it had a very high rating on the unintentional comedy scale.

4   Army Of Darkness

One of my all time favs has to be Bruce Campbell's Army of Darkness.  This was a sequel to what was supposed to have been a horror film that was so bad it was funny.  They went with this and made a funny horror film.  The effects were campy, and the comic genius that is Bruce Campbell was in full glory.  When Bruce said "Well Hello Mr Fancypants!" to Ivan the Red I thought I would die laughing.  The film is full of one liners that are easy to miss, so watching this movie over and over is always a good time.

3   Super Troopers.

I had never heard of the Canadian comedy troupe known as Broken Lizard until I watched this film.  This no name movie that I never heard much of was one of the funniest movies I have ever seen.  The quotes from the movie like "And that was the second time I caught crabs,,," or "Farva, whats that resturant you like to go to with the cheese sticks and the crazy stuff on the walls?"  will provide hours of uncontrollable laughs when you see them used in the context of the movie.  If you have not seen this move, please go and get it today.

2   Strange Brew

This is one of the best bad movies ever.  This movie was so good that my junior year in highschool, for a World History assignment my friends and I made a video skit of Bob and Doug MacKenzie go to ancient Rome.  (We got an A, but then again the teacher that gave us the A turned out not to be a certified teacher, took til the end of the year for the school board to figure that one out and fire him).   As bad as this movie was, it was still funny, and Max Von Syndow gave it enough credibility that even the campy parts were fun.

1   Office Space

Now I find this movie to be the best because I can relate to it.  It is about the life of a computer guy and his friends in the workplace of a technology company, and everything that goes along with it.  This includes a confused love life, a boss you hate, a co-worker with a strange attachment to his Redline Swingline Stapler and trying to prove to people that he actually had worth, a great movie that is worth more than a few laughs.  P.S.  My favorite character had to be the nosey neighbor.
